New Idria Mine and Ghost Town

A short time ago my father and I were discussing interesting, out of the way places, when he mentioned a ghost town near Pinnacles National Monument called New Idria. We talked about the historic rotary furnaces and quicksilver mine that was active until 1972. I couldn't resist. The mine and furnaces are fenced off, and every building in town is festooned with "Keep Out" signage, but other than that it is wonderfully accessible. This was also a good opportunity for me to practice HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography.
